TOUR OF IMPERIAL VALLEY (Dec. 8, 1996):

An agricultural tour of the Imperial Valley, California, is planned for Sunday, December 8, 1996, departing the Catamaran Hotel at 7:00 am. This phenomenal agricultural region of California produces 25% of the state's alfalfa, and winter vegetables for the entire nation. Alfalfa occupies over 50% of the acres in some years on a 10-11 cut system, and the region has substantial forage export industries (Sudangrass and alfalfa). Fed by the Colorado River Water, the Imperial Valley is truly an example of how the desert can bloom! Come with us as we visit a large desert dairy, learn how the water systems work, see hay harvesting in progress, observe hay export operations, visit experimental plots, winter sheep-grazing operations, and winter vegetable production. Registration is $35.00 which includes lunch and an evening barbeque, and visit with local ranchers. PREREGISTRATION ONLY, DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 15

EVENING DINNER CRUISE ON MISSION BAY:

Come dine with your colleagues on a restored Victorian stern wheeler, while viewing the nighttime vistas of San Diego's beautiful and historic Mission Bay. This majestic boat has all the charm of a turn of the century sternwheeler which plied the rivers of California in the days after the Gold Rush, including a hand-made cut glass skylight. Registration is $35.00, which includes either prime rib or swordfish dinner (please specify). PREREGISTRATION ONLY, DEADLINE NOVEMBER 15

PEST ADVISOR CREDITS:
